Woodvale is bounded by Ocean Reef Road in the north, the City of Wanneroo in the east, Whitfords Avenue in the south and the Mitchell Freeway in the west.
The area's name comes from the rolling countryside that had many stands of good timber.
The area was cleared in the 1960s.
Settlement of the area dates from the 1920s, with land used mainly for farming and grazing.
Development was minimal until the 1960s.
Rapid growth took place from the late 1970s through to the mid 1980s.
Growth continued until the early 1990s, then slowed in the late 1990s.
The population declined slightly between 2001 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
Major features of the area include Yellagonga Regional Park, Woodvale Nature Reserve, Chichester Park, Timberlane Park, Woodvale Boulevard Shopping Centre and numerous schools.
