West Perth is a commercial and residential area which has experienced significant recent residential redevelopment. 
 
West Perth is bounded by the Mitchell Freeway in the north and east, the suburb of Perth, Kings Park, Bellevue Terrace, Cliff Street and Kings Park Road in the south and Thomas Street and Loftus Street in the west. 
 
The small area of West Perth also includes the Mount Eliza Reservoir, which is located in the eastern section of Kings Park. 
 
Part of the suburb of West Perth is located in the Town of Vincent. 
 
West Perth is named for its western location from the Perth CBD. 
 
Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s, with land used mainly for sheep grazing and wheat growing. 
 
Growth took place in the 1880s and 1890s, spurred by nearby gold discoveries. 
 
Gradual expansion continued in the early 1900s. 
 
The population declined from the 1960s to the 1980s as residents moved outwards. 
 
This trend began to be reversed from the mid 1990s, spurred by urban renewal and redevelopment. 
 
Growth took place from 1996, with rapid development between 2001 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly high density housing. 
 
Major features of the area include Citywest Shopping Centre, Harbour Town Shopping Centre, Scitech Discovery Centre, The Constitutional Centre, Mount Eliza Reservoir, Parliament House, Harold Boas Gardens and Totterdell Park.
