Wattle Grove is a rapidly developing residential area, with substantial rural areas.
Wattle Grove is bounded by the Tonkin Highway, Hartfield Country Club and Hartfield Road in the north, Welshpool Road East and the suburb of Lesmurdie in the east, the City of Gosnells and the Tonkin Highway in the south, and the railway line and the Cities of Canning and Belmont in the west.
Wattle Grove is thought to be named after an early property in the area, or to describe the area which had groves of wattle trees.
Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for farming.
Some growth took place in the early 1900s.
Significant development did not occur until the 1970s.
The population was relatively stable during the 1990s, and then increased substantially between 2001 and 2006, a result of large numbers of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Tomah Swamp, Camp Wattle Grove and Bible College WA (Grace Community College).
