Watermans Bay is bounded by Beach Road in the north, Marmion Avenue in the east, Charles Riley Road, Williamson Way and Lynn Street in the south and the Indian Ocean in the west.
Watermans Bay is named after Alfred Waterman, an early landowner.
Settlement of the area dates from 1837 when the first land grant was made.
Growth was minimal until the 1880s, with land used mainly for grazing.
Significant development occurred during the post-war years, aided by the popularity of the area as a holiday destination.
Substantial growth took place in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The population increased slightly from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area and stability in average household size.
Major features of the area include Star Swamp Bushland Reserve, Star Swamp, West Coast Plaza, Henderson Environmental Centre, Charles Riley Memorial Reserve, Mount Flora Regional Museum, North Beach, Watermans Beach and two schools.
