The big, northern Perth suburb of Wanneroo, about 26km north of the CBD, is a burgeoning residential area encroaching upon old market gardens and small farming ventures, with a few small vineyards and some light industry completing a fairly eclectic scene.

Within Wanneroo Shire's boundaries, about 25km north of Wanneroo itself, is the magnificent Yanchep National Park, one of WA's oldest.
The park is home to many different waterbirds and bushbirds, including grebes, swans, pelicans, cormorants, egrets, kingfishers, parrots, wrens and honeyeaters, to name a few.
The endangered species called Carnaby's black-cockatoos are a spectacular daily sight, and the park is also home to western grey kangaroos and WA's largest koala colony.
