Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with some growth in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Significant development did not occur until the 1980s.
Rapid growth took place between 1991 and 1996, with the population almost doubling.
The population has continued to increase since the mid 1990s, although at a slower rate, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
