Queens Park is thought to be named after Queen Alexandra, wife of King Edward VII.
It was originally known as Woodlupine.
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s.
Population was minimal until the late 1800s, with land used mainly for farms, market gardens, orchards and nurseries.
Industrial growth took place during the 1920s, and again between the 1950s and 1970s.
Significant residential development did not occur until the post-war years, including public housing construction from the 1950s.
The population increased from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
In recent years there has been considerable urban renewal on the Quattro (formerly Maniana) housing site.
