Property Management One Mile - Ipswich - Suburb Profile
One Mile is a residential suburb on the Toowoomba Road, south-west of central Ipswich.
Its eastern boundary, the Bremer
River, is 1.7 km (1 mile) from the centre of Ipswich.
The riverside land was used for cropping in the late nineteenth century and there was a hotel near the One Mile bridge over the Bremer.
In 1925 part of the riverside land was reserved for a park, and renamed Leichhardt Park in 1930.
At that time One Mile included the suburb now known as Leichhardt
, which was named in 1953.
The park, however, remains in One Mile, and is the site of the local war memorial.
The One Mile bridge at its road approach was built in 1936 and has an unusual rising sun motif.
The local primary school (1950) is in Leichhardt, and the Catholic primary school (1967) is in One Mile.
There is also a Catholic church and a hall.
A Uniting church is nearby.
In addition to Leichhardt Park there are three other parks and reserves adjoining the Bremer River, including a large sports ground.
