Mount Pleasant - Brentwood is an established residential area, with a commercial area along Canning Highway, situated in the north-east of the City of Melville.
Mount Pleasant - Brentwood is bounded by the Canning Highway in the north, the Canning River and Bull Creek in the east, the Leach Highway in the south, and Lang Street, Sicklemore Street, Rogerson Road, Henley Road and Ardross Street in the west.
Mount Pleasant is named after an early property in the area.
It was originally known as Canning Bridge. Brentwood is named after a town in Essex, England.
Development of the area dates from 1892, when the first subdivision in the City, Summertown Estate was created in Mount Pleasant.
Land was subdivided in 1928, although growth remained minimal until the post-war years.
The most significant development occurred from the 1950s to the 1970s, when land was subdivided, the Kwinana Freeway was built and Brentwood was developed for the State Housing Commission.
The population has increased since the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Blue Gum Lake, Deepwater Point Reserve, Bateman Park, Blue Gum Park and two schools.
