Mindarie is a rapidly developing residential area, with a landfill and recycling centre in the south at Tamala Park.
Mindarie is bounded by Quinns Road in the north, Marmion Avenue, an alignment running east-west south of Neerabup Road and the proposed Mitchell Freeway in the east, the City of Joondalup in the south and the Indian Ocean in the west.
Mindarie is named after Mindarie Lake, which is thought to be named from an Aboriginal word meaning “the place near which is held a ceremony”.
Development of the area dates primarily from the late 1980s.
Rapid growth took place during the 1990s.
Growth continued between 2001 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly from the Mindarie Keys development.
Major features of the area include Mindarie Keys Marina, Abbeville Park, Anchorage Park, Bellport Park, Kinsale Park, Lighthouse Park, Rosslare Park, Mindarie Beach, part of Neerabup National Park and a number of schools.
