Marmion is an established residential area.
Marmion is bounded by Southside Drive, West Coast Drive and Hepburn Avenue in the north, Marmion Avenue in the east, Beach Road in the south and the Indian Ocean in the west.
Marmion is named after Peter Marmion, who once operated a whaling station in the area.
Settlement of the area dates originally from 1849 when a whaling station was established in Marmion.
Development was minimal until the 1930s, following subdivision.
Rapid growth took place from the 1970s, with growth slowing during the early 1990s.
The population has been relatively stable since the mid 1990s, a result of some new dwellings being added to the area, but a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
Major features of the area include Seacrest Park, Marmion Village Shopping Centre, Seacrest Village Shopping Centre, Marmion Beach, Sorrento Beach and several schools.
