Leda is a relatively recent residential area, with substantial parklands in the south and west.
Leda is bounded by Wellard Road in the north, the suburb of Wellard and a track running from Runnymede Gate through Leda Nature Reserve to Millar Road West near the Tailing Ponds in the east, Millar Road West in the south, and Mandurah Road, the City of Rockingham and a line roughly following the railway line north to Wellard Road in the west.
Leda is named after a ship which brought settlers to the Swan River Colony in 1830.
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming.
Significant development did not occur until the 1980s.
Rapid growth continued during the early 1990s, with the population more than doubling between 1991 and 1996.
Growth began to slow from the mid 1990s, with a small increase in population between 1996 and 2006, a result of fewer new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Sloans Cottage, Gabor Park, Leda Nature Reserve, Rogan Park, Sloans Reserve, Leda Shopping Centre and one school.
