Property Management Kwinana - Perth - Suburb Profile
Kwinana Town Centre is an established residential area, with a significant commercial area, and substantial parklands.
Kwinana Town Centre is bounded by Sulphur Road, Durrant Avenue and the southern border of Wildflower Reserve in the north, the Mandurah railway line in the east, Wellard Road in the south, and Gilmore Avenue in the west.
Kwinana Town Centre is named after the steamship Kwinana, which was damaged by fire, came loose from its moorings and was wrecked on the Kwinana Beach in 1922.
Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s, with land used mainly for farming.
Significant development did not occur until the 1970s, with rapid growth through to the 1980s.
The population fluctuated slightly during the 1990s, and then declined slightly between 2001 and 2006, a result of a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling, and a decline in the share of occupied dwellings.
In recent years there has been a significant decrease in the proportion of public housing, and considerable renewal and refurbishment of dwellings.
Major features of the area include Kwinana Hub Shopping Centre, Kwinana Recquatic, Koorliny Arts Centre, Challenger TAFE (Kwinana Campus), Council offices, Bakers Square, Chisham Oval, Parmelia Peace Park, the Kwinana railway station and two schools.
