History

Kallangur, named after an aboriginal word ‘Kalangoor’ which means a satisfactory place, is one of the most beautiful Australian suburbs. It is roughly 25 kilometers North of Brisbane and once you visit the place you will clearly notice why the place deserves this beautiful name.

Kallangur has a very rich and interesting early history. Tom Petrie was the first person to acquire the land in 1855. He was a Scottish migrant and within no time he intermingled with the local residents. He learned the local language and Aboriginal traditions. He obtained 10 square miles of land from Mrs. Griffin and named it ‘Murrumba’- which later divided into a number of suburbs including Kallangur.

Tom Petrie with the help of some local supporters cleared the land and started building mainstay of the modern Kallangur.

Kallangur was initially the land of farmers but in 1918, it was converted into a soldier colony. Farmers were joined by dairymen and the land began to develop into a bustling suburb. In 1927, the first postal office started its operation, while 1930 marked the opening of the first primary school in Kallangur.

This suburb started growing in 1900’s, when it became the main itinerary to the Redcliffe Peninsula. Recently, the area has become increasingly popular due to inundated housing demands in the northern region. Kallangur is on its way to urbanize and modernize, bringing even more residents to the area.

Kallangur has a wide range of restaurants and cafes nestled throughout the area. The restaurants offer a variety of delectable traditional and Italian-fused foods. You can either savor the delicious food in the relaxing atmosphere of restaurants or avail the ‘take-away’ service, if you are in a hurry.

Kallangur’s food industry is the mainstay of its economy. A number of local residents are employed in this hospitality industry which includes cafes, restaurants and take-away services.

You can also stroll to a number of scrumptious bakery items tailored to meet everyone’s sweet tooth or treat your taste buds with the mouthwatering food available in the best Kallangurian restaurants, where average price for entry and main ranges from $30-$35.

Besides, you can also visit a number of state-of-the-art hairdressing salons, if you want to have a nice and chic haircut.
