Hilton is bounded by Sainsbury Road, Stock Road and Garling Street in the north, Bowen Street, a line running continuous of Bowen Street and generally by South Street in the east, Stock Road and Winterfold Road in the south, and Carrington Street in the west.
Hilton is named after Hilton Park, a nearby reserve.
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming.
Significant growth did not occur until the post-war years, with industrial development in O'Connor from 1948 and residential development in Hilton during the 1950s and 1960s.
The population has been relatively stable since the early 1990s, a result of some new dwellings being added to the area, but a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
Major features of the area include Homeworld Centre, Rolloways Leisure Centre, Fremantle Police & Community Youth Centre and several schools.
