Property Management Gosnells - Perth - Suburb Profile
Gosnells is an established residential area, with commercial areas near the railway station, and some undeveloped land in the south.
Gosnells is bounded by the Canning River and Mills Road West in the north, Station Street, the Canning River and Lake Road in the east, the Albany Highway and the Tonkin Highway in the south, and Wungong Brook and the Southern River in the west.
Gosnells is named after Charles Gosnells, an early land holder in the area, and director of John Gosnell and Co. perfumery and cosmetic manufacturers.
Settlement of the area dates from 1829, with farms established along the Canning River.
Population was minimal until the early 1900s when land was subdivided.
Land was used mainly for orchards, nurseries, market gardens and poultry farms.
Significant development did not occur until the post-war years, with rapid growth from the 1950s to the late 1980s.
The population has been relatively stable since the early 1990s, a result of some new dwellings being added to the area, but a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
Major features of the area include Gosnells Railway Markets, Foothills Shopping Centre, Gosnells Shopping Centre, City of Gosnells Museum - Wilkinson Homestead, Council offices, Richard Rushton Community Centre, Acorn Theatre, Gosnells Oval, John Oakey Davis Park, Mary Carroll Park, Pioneer Park, Robinson Park, Southernwood Park and numerous schools.
