Ellenbrook is a rapidly developing residential area.
Ellenbrook is bounded by Maralla Road in the north, Almeria Parade, the locality of Upper Swan, Ellen Brook, Ellen Brook Drive, Aveley Road, Chateau Place, Millhouse Road, West Swan Road and the locality of Henley Brook in the east, Gnangara Road, Henley Brook Avenue and Park Street in the south, and Lord Street, Gnangara Road and the proposed Perth-Darwin Highway in the west.
This small area includes the suburb of The Vines, most of Aveley and Ellenbrook, and part of Henley Brook.
Ellenbrook is named after the wife of Governor James Stirling.
Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s when the first land grant was made.
Growth was slow, with land used mainly for farming.
Significant development did not occur until the 1990s.
Rapid growth took place from the early 1990s, particularly with development of The Vines and seven villages being developed around the town centre at Ellenbrook.
Growth continued between 2001 and 2006, with the population nearly doubling, a result of a significant number of new dwellings being added to the area.
Population growth is expected to continue.
Major features of the area include The Vines Golf Course, The Shops at Ellenbrook, Woodlake Sportsground, Sandown Park, Coolamon Oval, several lakes and a number of schools.
