Currambine is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “heaps of rocks”.
Development of the area dates primarily from the early 1990s.
Rapid growth took place during the 1990s, spurred by the opening of the railway station in 1993.
Growth continued between 2001 and 2006, although at a slower rate, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include part of the Joondalup Country Club Golf Course, Currambine Market Place Shopping Centre & Grand Cinemas, Caledonia Park, Carlton Park and two schools.
