Property Management Churchlands - Perth - Suburb Profile
Churchlands is a residential area with a large lake.
The area has experienced recent growth in the northern section.
Churchlands is bounded by Hale Road, Pearson Street and Jon Sanders Drive in the north, Herdsman Parade in the east, the northern edge of Grantham Selby Park, Pearson Place, Pearson Street and Cromarty Road in the south and Empire Avenue and Valencia Avenue in the west.
Churchlands is named because the Catholic Church once owned land in the area.
Settlement of the area dates from 1831 when the first land grant was made.
Growth was minimal until the 1890s and early 1900s, with land used mainly for farming and grazing.
Significant development occurred in the post-war years, with growth in the western part of Churchlands (near Herdsman Lake) during the 1980s and 1990s.
The population increased substantially during the 1990s.
Growth continued between 2001 and 2006, although at a slower rate, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly from the Floreat Lakes development.
Major features of the area include Herdsman Lake & Regional Park, Herdsman Wildlife Centre, Edith Cowan University (Churchlands Campus) and two schools.
