Property Management Calista - Perth - Suburb Profile
Calista is an established residential and parkland area.
Calista is bounded by Thomas Road in the north, Gilmore Avenue in the east, Wellard Road in the south, and Gentle Road, Tasker Road and the locality of Kwinana
Beach in the west.
Calista is named after the ships which brought settlers to the Swan River Colony in 1829 and 1830 respectively.
Settlement of the area dates from the mid 1800s, with land used mainly for farming.
Significant development did not occur until 1952, when public housing was constructed to complement nearby industrial growth.
Rapid growth took place during the 1950s in Medina, and during the 1960s in Calista.
Growth began to slow from the 1970s.
The population declined from the early 1990s, a result of fluctuations in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
In recent years there has been a significant decrease in the proportion of public housing, and considerable renewal and refurbishment of dwellings.
Major features of the area include Kwinana Golf Club, Smirk Cottage, Calista Oval, Chalk Hill Lookout, Harry McGuigan Park, Kelly Park, Medina
Oval, Rhodes Park, Ridley Green, Thomas Oval and several schools.
