Booragoon is named from an Aboriginal word thought to mean “south part of Canning”, possibly referring to the river.
Development of the area dates primarily from the post-war period, particularly from the 1960s to the early 1980s.
The population has declined slightly since the early 1990s, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling.
