Bentley is a residential, industrial and commercial area, with industry located mainly to the east of the Albany Highway. 
 
Bentley is bounded by Coolgardie Street, Albany Highway, Tate Street and Sevenoaks Street in the north, Mills Street and Albany Highway in the east, Burton Street and Manning Road in the south, and McKay Street, Marquis Street, Holder Street, Walpole Street, Pitt Street and Pollock Street in the west. 
 
Part of the suburb of Bentley is located in the Town of Victoria Park. 
 
Bentley is named after John Bentley, the Warder in Charge of a road workers camp in the area in the 1860s. 
 
It was originally known as Bentley Park. 
 
Settlement of the area dates from 1830 when the first land grant was made, with land used mainly for farming. 
 
Population was minimal until the 1880s when land was subdivided. 
 
Significant development did not occur until the post-war years, including public housing construction from the early 1950s. 
 
Rapid growth took place during the 1960s and 1970s. 
 
The population increased substantially from the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area, particularly medium density housing. 
 
Major features of the area include The Bentley (shopping) Centre, Bentley Hospital, Canning Aquatic Centre, Bentley Community Centre, Chapman Park, College Grove Park, Dumond Park, Gochean Reserve, Hedley Park, Hill View Park, Mitchell Park, Page Park, Wyong Reserve and two schools.
