History:

                Originally named Upper Paddington, the Bardon area began to develop as a residential area with land sales as early as 1862. Bardon House, one of the first landmarks of the area, was constructed in 1863, which is now near Bowman Park. Due to the fact that Bardon was at the top of an elevated area, which was too steep for the horse drawn trams of the time, the area was slow to develop until the advent of electric trams in the early 1900s.

                By 1915, the Bardon estate was divided into smaller allotments, which slowly increased the influx of residential population to the area. The area continued to develop both residential neighborhoods and supporting facilities and services to provide for the locals over the next several decades.  Now, Bardon is home to over 9000 residents and is an excellent location to call home.

 

Real Estate and Design:

                Bardon provides wonderful real estate to those wishing to remain close to Brisbane, but enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a quiet suburb. The majority of the architecture in the area follows the Queenslander colonial and workers cottage styles. Coot-tha also give an excellent workout, while also providing beautiful wide views of the Brisbane city skyline. Distance from the CBD & Transportation:

                At only 5 km outside of Brisbane’s CBD, Bardon provides locals with a wide variety of options for transportation. The Brisbane transit system runs consistent bus lines to Bardon including the 375 and 385, with trip times between 15 and 20 minutes. Jubilee Tce and Boundary Road also provide access to the airport and throughout Brisbane and can access the city within a number of minutes.

Famous Landmarks:

                Bardon is home to a number of notable locations. Not least among these is the Government House, Queensland, bordering Bardon, the official domicile of the Governor of Queensland. A number of the homes and buildings throughout Bardon also have historical significance, and a number can be found on the Queensland Heritage Register.

Restaurants and Cafés:

                A number of small private restaurants that range in style from Chinese and Japanese to Thai and Indian are found throughout Bardon. A decent number of these are centered around Macgregor Terrace, as well as other larger streets throughout the suburb. The area also supports a decent number of bakeries and cafés to provide refreshment to everyone.

Schools, Education & Institutions:

                A number of educational facilities are located within or very near to Bardon. These include the St Joseph’s Catholic primary, Bardon State primary, Rainworth State and Ithaca Creek State schools. Suburbs nearby, such as Paddington,Toowong and Auchenflower also provide a number of education solutions for Bardon families.
