Ballajura is a relatively recent residential area. 
 
Ballajura is bounded by Hepburn Avenue and Whiteman Park in the north, Hepburn Avenue in the east, Marshall Road, the locality of Malaga, Weir Road, Cassowary Drive, Townsend Street and Action Road in the south, and Alexander Drive in the west. 
 
Ballajura is named after a former property in the area. 
 
Settlement of the area dates from 1829 when the first land grants were made. 
 
Growth was slow, with land used mainly for cattle farming. 
 
Significant residential development took place from the late 1970s as the area was subdivided. 
 
The population increased rapidly during the early 1990s, a result of large numbers of new dwellings being added to the area. 
 
Growth slowed considerably during the late 1990s, with the population declining marginally between 2001 and 2006, a result of little change in dwelling stock and a decline in the average number of persons living in each dwelling. 
 
Major features of the area include Ballajura City Shopping Centre, Glenview Market Shopping Centre, Ballajura Aquatic Centre, Emu Swamp Reserve, Kingfisher Park, Emu Lake and a number of schools.
