Baldivis - Karnup is a rapidly growing residential area, with substantial outlying rural areas. 
 
Baldivis - Karnup is bounded by Millar Road West, Telephone Lane, the railway line and Duckpond Road in the north, Wilkinson Road, the Serpentine River and the Serpentine-Jarrahdale Shire in the east, the Shire of Murray in the south and Mandurah Road in the west. 
 
Baldivis is named after three ships, the "Balranald", the "Diogenes" and the "Jervis Bay”, which brought people to the area. 
 
Karnup is named after the original township, which was named from an Aboriginal word. 
 
Development of the area dates from the 1920s, spurred by the Government's settlement scheme. 
 
Land was used mainly for farming. Significant development did not occur until the 1950s. 
 
Rapid growth took place from the mid 1990s, with the population more than trebling between 1996 and 2006, a result of new dwellings being added to the area. 
 
Growth has been mainly in the western section of Baldivis. 
 
Major features of the area include Rockingham Lakes Regional Park, Stockland Baldivis (shopping centre), WA Water Ski Park, Baldivis Nature Reserve, Karnup Nature Reserve, Tamworth Wetlands, Tamworth Hill Reservoir, Marapana Wildlife World, Baldivis Explosives Reserve (Department of Minerals & Energy), Peel Estate Winery, Tuart Ridge Winery and numerous schools.
