History:
Bald Hills was initially populated by a number of Scot families, who quickly built a small settlement. The initial families, Duncans and Stewarts, transformed the area into a mixed farming application. Twenty years later, the North Coast railway established a station in Bald Hills, providing easy transport and increased trade to the area.
A number of churches and the local school developed to serve the increasing population, which had grown to more than 500 by the 1900s. Bald Hills continued its steady growth as a rural agricultural region up until the mid-1950s, when urban growth began in earnest. In the 1960s the population spiked dramatically, as did the residential neighborhoods and supporting stores and services. Modernization and urbanization have continued as Bald Hills consistently grows today.
Real Estate and Design:
Bald Hills homes and grounds maintain a good portion of their original heritage. A decent amount of the area is still agriculturally influenced, which can be seen in the larger than average tracts of land and majority of residences being single detached houses influenced by the colonial Queenslander style, with a much smaller percentage of units and townhomes available. The area provides an excellent getaway from city noise and traffic and allows for a peaceful setting for retirees and families.
Shopping:
Bald Hills supports a number of small shopping centers including groceries, pharmacies and convenience stores found just off of major thoroughfares such as the Bruce Highway and Gateway Arterial. A much wider selection of stores, such as discount department stores, boutiques, home wares and specialty shops, can be found in the larger shopping centers found in nearby Toombul, Chermside and Aspley, all within a short drive of Bald Hills.
Sports and Fitness:
Bald Hills, in addition to its abundance of open space, provides locals with a number of parks, including Canterbury Park, home of the Lawnton Lions Cricket Club, which provide a number of walkways and bike paths for exercise and recreation, in addition to well-manicured spaces for hours of outdoor entertainment. Bald Hills also hosts the Stanley Day Soccer Fields, and a nine-hole golf course and driving range.
Distance from CBD & Transportation:

The local train, Brisbane’s transit system and local roads all provide easy access to the city. The well maintained Bruce Highway and Gateway Arterial provide quick access, usually around 20 minutes to both the CBD and Brisbane Airport. The Brisbane transit system also runs the PETR and CABL trains consistently to Bald Hills, with trip times averaging between 30 and 45 minutes.
Famous Landmarks:
Bald Hills has a number of points of interest located within its borders. The most noticeable of these is the Bald Hills Radiator, a 198 m tall radio broadcast tower owned by the Australian Broadcast Company. In addition, near the center of Bald Hills, is the historic train station, erected in circa 1888. The area also is home to the Breeding and Training Center for Guide Dogs, a key contributor to the Blind Association of Queensland and Tinchi Tamba Wetlands Reserve, an environmental park and natural reserve.
