Attadale is an established residential area, situated in the north-west of the City of Melville.
Attadale is bounded by the Swan River in the north, Alfred Cove in the east, the Canning Highway in the south, and Stock Road in the west.
Attadale is thought to be named after a town in Scotland.
Settlement of the area dates from 1830, although population was minimal until 1896. Some growth took place in the early 1900s, however, due to relative isolation, significant development of the area did not occur until the 1950s, aided by a major land reclamation project along the Swan River foreshore in the 1960s.
The population has increased slightly since the mid 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Alfred Cove Nature Reserve, Attadale Reserve, Attadale Private Hospital, Troy Park, foreshore areas and a number of schools.
