History:

The Anstead area, developed and subdivided from the estate of John Anstead, is a fairly new suburb of the Brisbane area. A section of the area was also sectioned off by the Brisbane City Council as the Anstead Bushland Reserve in the 1950s. This area includes the remains of an Aboriginal path as well as the local quarry, used for extracting sandstone for the are in years past. By the 1980s, most of the neighborhoods in the area had attained a decent amount of their current infrastructure, which has continued to be renovated and modernized since.

Real Estate and Design:

Although only 16 km southwest of Brisbane’s CBD, Anstead has a very relaxed rural setting.  Surrounded by a number of peaceful waterways and comprised primarily of larger tracts of land, made affordable by being outside of Brisbane, Anstead provides a very laid back environment for locals. Housing styles throughout the suburb range from large acreage Queenslander colonials to modern brick and tile low and high set structures. A majority of the homes in the area include large plots of land and are owned or being purchased, with a very small fraction of residents renting.

Shopping:

The local Bellbowrie Shopping Plaza has a number of shops and restaurants for locals to enjoy. With a dentist, video store, supermarket and a very inclusive convenience shop, the center provides all basic necessities. Shopping centers in the nearby Kenmore retail district, only a ten minute drive from Anstead, provide a wide selection of clothing stores, boutiques, banks, and specialty stores for every need and taste.

Sports and Fitness:

Anstead has a small number of parks and the Bellbowrie public swimming pool for local activity and entertainment, although the suburb mainly relies on the nearby Moggill Country Club and Bellbowrie District Sports and Recreation Association based in Booker Place Park for the majority of its sports and club activities.  Nearby Booker Place Park also maintains a soccer field for local games and enthusiasts.

Distance from CBD & Transportation:

Due to its distance from the CBD, Anstead does not support any regular bus routes, but does have a number of major roads with direct access to Brisbane, including Mount Crosby Road to Moggil Road, or the M2 Ipswich Motorway.

Famous Landmarks:

Anstead is home to the famous Anstead Bushland Reserve, and is bordered on the north by a larger State Forest reserve developed to protect a number of rare species and the local eucalypt woodland. In addition, the original base of Anstead, the Anstead Quarry is located within the suburbs lines.

Restaurants and Cafés:

Although the suburb of Anstead itself is predominantly residential, a number of surrounding suburbs have a wide variety of restaurants and cafés for every occasion and taste. A selection of treats from cafés and bakeries are available, as are several restaurants providing a wide range of cuisine from Indian and Italian to modern Australian and Japanese. A variety of take-away restaurants are also available to Anstead locals.

Schools, Education & Institutions:

Anstead, again due to its very rural and residential nature, Anstead does not have any educational facilities within the suburb lines.  However, the area is supported by the Moggill State Primary School only 10 minutes away, and by the Kenmore and Indooroopilly, both of which are within 20 minutes of Anstead.
