History:

Originally classified as an allotment of worthless land, used only by a number of cattlemen and their families, the area of Alderley attained its name in 1882, concurrent with the construction of the local post office. The name was finalized in 1886, when the Alderley Arms Hotel was finished and licensed.

The area saw no significant development until the establishment of the first Brisbane vineyard by the Raymont family. This family went on to increase the town of Alderley, eventually helping with the post office, local store and a fuel depot in the 1920s. In 1899, Alderley further developed with the addition of the Alderley railway station on the Enoggera line.

By the 1940s, the suburb of Alderley had expanded and urbanized to include a number of churhcess, hotels and industries, including the Alderley Biscuit factory, Royal Parade and Monier Pipe Company. The area also was home to the Newmarket brickworks until 1987.  In addition, the area also grew to develop a recreation center and number of modern shops to support modern day residents.
